[i am the future of the world] took place on april 22, 2008, earth day, as a celebration of the youth that will inherit the world. each person was asked to bring another individual with them as an exploration of connections, beauty, and the vitality of the coming days. source

the camera project

CSS, PhP, MySQL, Javascript, Ajax

Commissioned to help build another online photo project by Erin Mulevhill.
the camera project is an exploration of how children perceive their environment. [...] each child was provided with a one-time use camera and asked to document their lives. there were no limitations placed on what the children could or could not photograph. after shooting all of the exposures, each child was asked to write a bit about themselves and what they photographed.

this project highlights the beauty of the world that connects us to one another, a beauty that is deep and surpasses the realm of aesthetics. source
Using PhP and MySQL programming languages a large amount of photos were resized and organized for users to explore. A tagging system was also built from scratch to allow users to search for specific images in the site. All photos and graphic elements were provided by Erin Mulevhill and arranged by myself.

Games

Joey Boy's Great Adventure For Fulfillment

Flash, Actionscript 3

An adventure game imagined, designed, coded, and built by myself with help on tiles, the boss, and splash screen art from a team of colleagues (Emily Robins, Ben Barnhart, James Reynolds, and Dan Davidson) in a 2d computer gaming course. Various sounds and some sprites were taken from various stock and free-use community websites.

(There is no preloader for this currently, please wait to load.)

A tile based engine was also designed and built to create this game. This includes health and item tracking systems, AI, world and map traversing, and a map editor. Which an example of is presented below. Use the arrow keys to change tiles, and space bar to output a map's value.

Ringmaster

Unity, Lightwave 9

Developed by a team (Emily Robins, Kelsey Adams, Meg Grube, Marcus Lee, Chad Cable, Tracy Dendy, and myself) as a collaborative project for a 3d Computer Gaming course at Syracuse University. Ringmaster is a 3d platforming game that requires you to collect a set of randomly dropped keys to reveal platforms and escape the Ringmaster's maniacal circus by climbing the main tent. My job required me to program a large set of platforming mechanics and game elements, particle and lighting effects, level design, and compiling my colleagues work together.

Work In Progress

Mirror

Unity, Maya

Mirror is an indie game developed solely by myself, Craig Spaeth. Mirror aims to explore themes of escapism and satire the hegemonic masculine adventure narrative. The gameplay revolves around two worlds, or two alternate dimensions, that the player can warp between in a matter of a split second. This allows the player to open new options in the narrative and to manipulate and traverse their environment in new ways.

The story follows the main character, Miranda, through the fantasy world Narcia. Miaranda struggles to accept the reality of her brother being drafted to war as she is unwillingly guided along a path to save Narcia from the destruction of a giant demon.

I would like to thank everyone that took the time to play my game in my thesis shows, and invite you to download the current alpha version demo.
